GVSU Car Club

History

The Grand Valley State University Car Club was started in 2004 by 3 freshmen who enjoyed talking about and working on their rides. Josh, Joel and Quentin (known as 'Q') worked together and organized a carshow that took place in the 2005 winter semester. The show had a exceptional turnout for a first year event organized by 3 freshmen with the help of many of their new college friends. There was free food for those that attended, WGRD was blasting music and there were prizes for those that won over the crowd.

The following year the club became an official student organization and the executive board organized the second car show which took place in the winter semester of 2006. This show was co-soponsored by The National Society of Black Engineers at GVSU. This show had an even larger turn out and featured many area sponsors that donated to a raffle for charity.

The third show took place during the 2007 winter semester and was almost snowed out. There was still snow on the ground in Allendale the days leading up to the show. Despite a great turnout of about 150 cars and bearable weather, the club decided to move the car show to the fall semester.

The fourth show took place relatively soon after the previous show. It took place in fall 2007, on the Saturday of Family Weekend at GVSU. The show had a great turnout with about 115 cars and excellent weather.

Although the main event organized by the GVSU car club is the annual car show, several of the members of the club attend other car events in the Grand Rapids and Detroit area together.
